I went to see Michael on the 4th February - it was awesome. As an Elvis fan since 1956 - I thought I'd seen the best - but now I was seeing a spectacular portrayal of the King in action... Never being fortunate enough to see a live performance I had always had to use my imagination, fortified by video clips, movies and LPs. Its unfortunate when you are a super fan that part of you becomes a niggley critic just waiting for a little crack to show - I waited and waited but in the end I just settled in to seeing something I could appreciate - this guy was not trying to be Elvis - he was just another fan - who had studied the script and new the moves - he slipped in and out of character with the ease of a seasoned actor... when he was Michael he teased the crowd and showed his great sense of humour and warmth and when he was Elvis he jolted the fans back to surrealistic flashbacks of great shows and movies... |
On the occasion his own unmistakable accent pierced his adopted Tupelo monologue the crowd responded to his obvious teasing with joy, enhancing the warmth that bonded an dedicated artiste to an appreciative packed auditorium. His baritone lyrics went through to his boots and made every number indistinguishable from the original... Backed by a very able band of dedicated musicians who added to the deception and two fabulous ladies whose backing vocals were stunning and totally convincing this was a truly memorable performance... And last but not least I have to say that this guy is a total gentleman both in performance and off stage... Thanks Michael for a great night... If you are lucky enough to have Michael King playing in a venue near you prioritise your day and order some tickets (before they sell out ) and if you live a distance away - go anyway - the journey will well worth taking.
